First Day of Shooting

In this blog post, I will be detailing and going through my group's first day of shooting scenes for our movie opening. I will be posting some photos along the process to explain some of the props, costumes, and settings we have used in the process.

To start our first day we had to decide a location where to start filming, we had to make sure certain specifications were met. Things such as how far it was for all of us to get to, with an office building that we could use, a parking lot, and a straight road near. Evaluating a few places we all decided on this one area right across where Yanes lives as it was a short drive for Lapidot and I and met all our requirements. We all decided to meet around 6:30 to have time to set up correlating with the sunset to film as soon as it got dark.

In the pictures above the costumes used for shooting are shown. Lapidot on the left, playing our stalker is in typical stalker clothing, dark clothing with a hood over his head. Yanes on the right, playing our main character, is dressed in formal work attire with no colour to the costume. With a white shirt, black pants and black tie to depict an average office worker.

Furthermore, to get to the scene of shooting and shoot certain parts of our film we each brought out cars to the location. Yanes with the grey car to the left, Lapidot's white car in the middle, and my black SUV to the right. We were able to use Yanes and my car to film various parts on the first day, making sure we recorded ample amounts of footage to work with.

Pictured above is the office building our group decided to use to film. This is where we have begun filming, debating starting the shot from inside the office or from the outside. After realizing that a special key card was needed to gain access, we were forced to go with the latter option of filming from the outside. To give the impression that Yanes was coming out of the office and through the stalker's perspective we filmed from a bush and trees in the way where Yanes would through as he was exiting the building. We were concerned the shot would come off quite choppy and not convey the perspective through the stalker's view, but after testing out some angles and the different cameras we were able to provide we settled with using my phone camera and our shot and movements.

With following Yanes out of the building watching through the bushes, we were able to move onto the second scene. This scene required Yanes to walk towards his car as we set up an over the shoulder shot to follow him, starting the car up and leaving, shortly after leaving he would be followed by another car. We decided to use my car as compared to Lapidots it was a big black SUV that blended in well with the scenery to use as a stalker's car. We tried taking this clip a few tries, trying out and eventually seeing that the main character would get in their car leave and the stalker would wait in the car shortly after they turn out to start up their car. We made sure it was known to the audience that the stalker started up their car by turning on the lights for the SUV and slowly tracking out the parking lot.

To continue with our third and final shot of the day, our main character was depicted driving home down a long and straight road, another reason we used this specific location. To continue with the stalker's perspective, the shot was taken through the stalker's car looking out to follow MCs car. With me driving my car I opted to borrow the black hoodie brought to make sure to keep our stalkers identity hidden as Lapidot hopped in the backseat to film mostly my arm and the car ahead. We were able to get this shot in one go and with enough footage to use certain parts interchangeably.

With the three scenes done, our group decided we had done ample amounts of work done today, to begin with, the editing process which will be shown in the next blog posts. With the multiple tries, we believe that we will not have to reshoot these specific scenes. With this said, we were all very happy our first day went well and we got the scenes we planned to shoot in a decent time and had fun with it as well. We are looking to start our second day of shooting sometime next week when we all have time to meet up again. Overall, it was a great way to start our film and cannot wait to continue.
